UCLA Summit on Jobs and Education
The UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs and ECE! Works held a summit in the Millenium Biltmore Hotel on jobs, education and business competitiveness.
The event featured a conversation between two leaders, Newark, New Jersey mayor, Cory Booker, as well as Alfred E. Osborne, Jr., Ph.D., Senior Associate Dean of the UCLA Anderson School of Management. Booker is known for his innovative problem-solving skills and municipal leadership, while Osborne is an expert on global economics and entrepreneurship.
Advocating for public policy change, the speakers addressed the importance of education reform and human capital investments in strengthening the L.A. economy, as well as the importance of training the region's next generation workforce.
Kim Belshe is the Executive Director of First 5 LA, a child advocacy organization dedicated to improving health, safety and school-readiness of young children in L.A. county.
She said educating children the moment they're born is crucial to success later in life.
The summit was moderated by Frank D. Gilliam, Jr., Ph.D., Dean of The UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs.
