Lamarana's Local Leader: A Community Place

A Community Place is a volunteer organization at USC.

A Community Place is a volunteer organization at USC.

"We basically serve hot lunches on a chilly day like this and canned goods to the working poor and homeless in the USC neighborhood and Downtown Los Angeles neighborhood," explained Kyungseo Min, a student leader at A Community Place.

Bobby D. Walker said he's thankful the organization is there to help people like him. "If I am a little low on funds, it means I can come here and get a hot meal," said Walker.

Members of the organization not only serve food, but provide clothes, bus tokens, taxi vouchers, shelter and education information.

"Every Thursday at the University religious center at five p.m., we pack these lunches, and every Monday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., we are here at this church, St. Mark's Church," said Min.

Student volunteers place an emphasis on building relationships with clients.

"It means so much to be able to meet people from LA that are struggling and to hear their stories and to help form a bond with people," said Henna Menglani, a volunteer at A Community Place.
