Protest Against Worker Treatment at Chinese Car Company

The company recently was fined for not paying their workers enough.

Local community groups protested the poor treatment of workers at the electric car manufacturing company Build Your Dreams in downtown L.A. Thursday.

Protesters claim the company promised good jobs for Angelinos, but were not treating their workers fairly.

The California Department of Industrial Relations recently fined the company for paying their workers only $1.50 per hour, much less than the California minimum wage which is currently eight dollars.

The Asian Americans Advancing Justice in LA released a letter to all BYD employees describing their rights and educating them about differences in the way the company was treating them and their legal responsibilities.

The city of Los Angeles purchases buses that the company produces, and some Angelinos feel the city should not support a company that treats its workers poorly.
