Hermosa Beach Votes Against Earlier Closing Time

Hermosa Beach voters voted down an initiative that would have made bars and restaurants close earlier than 2 a.m.

UPDATE|Wednesday, Nov. 6 2013: Hermosa Beach residents voted no on Measure B, which means that bars and restaurants will not have to cut back on their hours of operation.

ORIGINAL STORY|Tuesday, Nov. 5 2013: Hermosa Beach residents voted Tuesday on a measure that could mean earlier "last calls" for the city's social scene.

Measure B is on the ballot in the Hermosa Beach General Municipal Election.

It would force bars and restaurants in the downtown area to close by midnight Sunday through Wednesday and by 1 A.M. Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Many residents support the initiative because they believe the cut back on hours of operation will reduce noise levels when people are trying to sleep.

However, business owners are concerned that closing earlier will reduce jobs and revenue for the city.
