Human Rights Group Calls to End Moratorium on Car Impounding

Unlicensed immigrants protested against current measures taken against illegal drivers.

Marchers gathered in front of the East L.A. Sheriff's Station Wednesday morning to protest against what they consider racial profiling in regard to illegal drivers.

Protesers are upset that until a new law goes into effect in January 2015, granting undocumented immigrants driver's licenses, those drivers could still be fined and have their vehicles impounded.

Human rights advocates and California immigrants at Wednesday's protest called for L.A. County to stop impounding vehicles.

Governor Jerry Brown signed the new law, known as AB60, on October 3. It will also make drivers eligible for insurance and training for written and driving tests required by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.

COMMENTS

So, illegal aliens are now able to get driver's licenses, yet expect to be exempted from consequences if they don't bother to get them? Want to be able to be free to get a license if they want to, but not have their car impounded if they don't? I can see a lawsuit waiting to happen--by citizens of the state whose cars are impounded while those of illegal aliens are not. Illegal aliens don't seem to grasp the idea of EQUAL TREATMENT UNDER THE LAW.
