Typhoon Relief: Local Filipino Community Unites to Help

Several local, national and international relief agencies are collecting funds and other donations to help those affected by the deadly typhoon.

Members of the Los Angeles Filipino Christian Church are on a mission to help those affected by Typhoon Haiyan.

For a yard sale slated to take place this Saturday, donations are pouring in.

The local church's fundraising is just one of many charitable efforts started in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan's widespread devastation in the Philippines.

Metropolitan L.A. is home to the nation's largest population of Filipino Americans - many of whom are glued to TV, phone and computer screens as they try to communicate with relatives.

"We need to be there for one another," said Jesse Bautista. "We have our compadres, our Filipinos. They're our extended family. It hurts us to see them hurt."

Members of the Filipino community say it is the little efforts combined that will ultimately make an impact as the country recovers from the natural disaster.
