Retailers Jumpstart Black Friday on Thanksgiving Day

Retailers are increasing holiday promotions by opening earlier.

Major retailers are opening earlier and offering bigger Black Friday sales to make the most of the shortest holiday season in more than a decade, according to industry analysts.

Wal-Mart, Kohl’s, Target, Toys R Us, Macy’s and J.C. Penney all announced plans to open on Thanksgiving day to take advantage of Pre-Black Friday promotions.

Wal-Mart plans to open at 6 P.M. on Thanksgiving day, two hours earlier than last year, and has already kicked off its online holiday promotions. Kohl’s, which faced disappointing holiday sales last year, will open at 8 P.M. on Thanksgiving day and plans to pay for the purchases of four randomly-
selected customers at each of its stores as well as online.

Is nothing sacred? The holidays have slipped away from the general public and been completely bastardized by Big Business. The traditional meaning of Thanksgiving and Christmas both have been diluted by mass consumerism.
