Fast Food Workers Protest for Higher Wages
Thousands of employees at fast-food chains are staging “walk-outs” Thursday in 100 cities across the U.S.
Their demand?
Raising awareness about the low wages that workers receive.
Protestors rallied outside a McDonald's in Silverlake, where one participant said it's "absolutely ridiculous" to expect workers to live on wages around $8 per hour.
But in a statement released to ATVN, McDonald's said, "To right-size the headlines...the events taking place are not strikes. Outside groups are traveling to McDonald's and other outlets to stage rallies."
Last month, President Obama agreed to back a Senate-proposed measure to increase the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 per hour.
