Former USC Head Coach Pete Carroll Hosts Seminar
Seattle Seahawks head coach and former USC football head coach Pete Carroll returned to USC Wednesday night. Carroll was part of an event hosted by the Marshall School of Business at Bovard Auditorium.
Carroll attended on behalf of his organization "Win Forever," a program that stresses the philosophy of becoming a self-motivated leader.
USC students were awarded RSVPs through an online lottery system. Carroll's seminar is part of a series that Marshall's entrepreneurial program is hosting throughout the Spring semester.
Many students found his visit inspirational. This was the first time Carroll visited USC since 2010. USC alum Will Ferrell and current USC football coach Steve Sarkisian joined Carroll on stage.
In nine years, Carroll's USC record was 96-19 between 2001-2008, and established USC as a football powerhouse. Following the investigation by the NCAA Carroll was hired by the now Super Bowl Champions Seattle Seahawks.
USC faced harsh NCAA penalties following the Reggie Bush scandal, but Carroll expressed his disappointment in how the NCAA handled it.
"I thought it was dealt poorly, and very irrationally, and done with way to much emotion instead of facts," said Carroll. "I listened to the venom they had for our program. They didn't understand a thing about what we were all about. They tried to make it out like it was something else. They made a terrible error."
Since Carroll's departure USC has seen four football coaches. In their last season, the Trojans finished 10-4 record and won their 10th win at the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl beating Fresno State 45-20.
