Holder Calls for New Law on Data Breaches
The pressure is on for lawmakers to act following numerous data breaches last year at retail stores. Attorney General Eric Holder urged Congress to establish laws that would make companies, like Target, notify customers immediately when a breach happens. This would help consumers protect themselves and their information.
Last year, a data breach at Target exposed the credit card data of 40 million people. Holder said rapid notification would also help officials combat cybercrime.
