Parents Demand Action after Mother Hit in Crosswalk

Marlene Edith Barrera was walking her daughter to school when she was hit by a truck.

Parents demanded action after a mother was hit and killed in a crosswalk while walking her nine-year-old daughter to school.

A memorial was placed in front of Le Conte Middle School in Hollywood. Marlene Edith Barrera, 42, was walking her daughter to school when she was hit by a truck. Residents said the intersection at 1300 Bronson Avenue had a reputation for being dangerous.

A representative from the World Charter School said, "Our school is committed to doing everything we can to help the family and all of our children get through this difficult time. We are setting up opportunities for the community to support the family in need, providing crisis counselors to all of our children and working with police and the city to ensure that all measures are taken to enable students and their families to have the safest possible routes to school."
