USC Aquatics Center Gears Up for Grand Opening
The USC Athletics Department will unveil its brand new $16 million Uytengsu Aquatics Center this Friday.
The department will hold a dedication ceremony at 3 p.m. and then USC's No. 4 swimming and diving team will hold their first meet in the pool, playing Utah at 5:30 p.m.
Pat Haden will speak at the dedication ceremony, joined by Fred Uytengsu, a walk-on for USC's 1983 swim team.
Uytengsu donated half the funds required to build the new complex, which took over a year to complete.
The center includes a new stadium entrance, locker rooms, coach's offices, meeting rooms, diving tower, scoreboard and a larger seating area.
USC swim coach David Salo said he hopes the improvements will get more people in the pool, while swimmers said they hope it brings more fans to cheer the Trojans on.
