Councilman Aims to Make Venice Boardwalk Safer

Crime rates on the Venice Boardwalk have Councilman Bonin rethinking how the boardwalk is regulated.

Venice officials met Wednesday to discuss taking action to make the Venice Boardwalk safer.

Councilman Mike Bonin introduced tentative plans to institute a board to regulate the ocean front. The board would also be charged with reducing crime in the area.

Some citizens commended the councilman's efforts, and others suggested having police officers on segways patrol the area.

The boardwalk has always been a traditional tourist spot, but Councilman Bonin said crime has become a big problem.

In previous years, the city has tried unsuccessfully to better the boardwalk's atmosphere.
