Thousands of Fifth-Graders Perform Choreographed Dance

Nearly 4,500 L.A. County students gathered to perform a choreographed piece at The Music Center Plaza.

Fifth graders from public, private and charter schools across Los Angeles County kicked off a three-day dance event on Wednesday as part of The Blue Ribbon Children's Festival on Wednesday.

All schools in the L.A. County area were invited to participate, and 234 schools and 18,000 students accepted the invitation.

Since 1970, The Blue Ribbon Children's Festival has made it a mission to give students access to the "best of the performing arts froma  young age."

Participating schools receive curriculum materials, background on the performing company and lesson plans to prepare students for the performance.

The festival, which runs from April 9-11, gave students the opportunity to experience a performance by the Paul Taylor Dance Company. Afterwards, the fifth grade students perform a piece choreographed just for them in front of their peers.

The festival runs from 9:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. everyday at The Music Center Plaza and is free to the public.
