Campus Prepares for Fountain Run

Some of the fountains will be closed to prevent cuts and other serious injuries.

The USC campus will be very loud starting at 9:30 p.m. Thursday night.

The annual USC Fountain Run, a senior tradition where graduating students run from fountain to fountain throughout the University Park campus.

With 19 visible fountains around the USC campus, seniors will have a lot of running to do, but to some students' dismay, some fountains are fenced off.

DPS Deputy Chief David Carlisle said the school has decided to close about seven fountains to prevent any serious injuries. Fountains with exposed pipes or sharp edges will remain closed throughout the run, which Carlisle says is expected to last until 1:30 a.m.

Emergency crews will be on campus to transport and treat any students.

"About 2,000 students attended last year," said Carlisle, "and we're really looking forward to seeing the seniors enjoy themselves and celebrate their final year at USC."
