Two children are in stable condition after falling from a second-story window at a home in the Hawthorne area at South Ocean Gate Avenue and West El Segundo Boulevard on Tuesday morning.

The children were napping on a bed next to the window when they awakened and crawled through a gap left by missing window slats, said the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to a call at 11:48 a.m. and both of the victims were treated, according to a representative.

The children are under the age of two, according to KTLA.

The incident has been labeled as "nearly-accidental" and will undergo further investigation to ensure it occurred in a non-criminal nature, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
