Fluor Tour's Sol y Luna Celebrates 40th Anniversary
Residents of Fluor Tower's Latino Floor, El Sol y Luna, gathered Wednesday in the Ronald Tutor Campus Center Ballroom to celebrate the floor's 40th anniversary.
El Centro Chicano and the Office for Residential Education organized the event to honor the opportunity and impact the floor has had on residents over the years. Sal Godey, the first Residential Advisor on the floor, founded El Sol y Luna in 1974.
The floor offers cultural, social, and academic opportunities for its residents and is open to all students interested in learning about Latino culture.
The event included a preformance by the local Latin and Grammy-nominated band Trio Ellas, speakers such as El Centro Chicano's Co-Founder Mary Ann Pacheco, and food from Traditions.
El Centro Chicano is an on-campus Latino student organization that aims to educate the campus about Latino and ethnic issues and diversity in the community.
