Geologists: Hollywood Development Above Possible Earthquake Fault

The California Geological Survey released a map today that shows an earthquake fault that runs underneath the proposed Millennium skyscraper project zone in Hollywood.

A California state geologist said the faults under the Millennium skyscraper project in Hollywood are considered high-risk active faults.

A high-risk active fault is one that has ruptured at any point within the last 11,000 years, according to the State Mining & Geology Board.

A consultant for Millennium Partners disputes geologists’ claims of active faults under the project zone. He spoke with the Los Angeles Times.

Mayor Eric Garcetti and the City Council signed off on the project last year, but it has been on hold while geologists continue to conduct more research.

Some residents oppose the development, but another resident, Merle Osgood said the focus should be on whether or not the buildings can withstand earthquakes.
