President Nikias Becomes Newest Instructor For Spring 2016
President Nikias is returning to the classroom after hosting micro seminars during Welcome Week for the last 10 years. He will be co-teaching with Thomas Habinek, professor of classics at the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences.
The President says although there is a lot of work preparing for the spring course, he is excited to finally return to the classroom. He feels it is important for him as President to have direct interaction with the students, especially undergraduate students.
Born on the island of Naples, President Nikias has a passion for the timeless wisdom that one can extract from the greek classics. During his time at National Technical University of Athens, he appreciated the emphasis of Greco-Roman classics and sciences.
This course on the culture of Athenian democracy will explain the mindset of the Athenian audience when tragedies were staged for the first time.
40 lucky freshman and sophmores who started at USC no earlier than the fall of 2014 will be able to register for the class. To be considered, students must submit an online application by November 6.
President Nikias says he and Professor Habinek are looking for students from all disciplines.
