After a decade producing local news up and down the west coast, I moved to New York City in 2011 to help launch CBS This Morning.  I oversee the on-air operation and am proud to work with several other USC Annenberg alums.

2008 Emmy for Best Daytime Newscast - Larger Markets—Multiple Emmy nominations for Best Daytime Newscast and Breaking News.

What are the top three skills journalism students should learn in college?:

Writing! Writing! Writing!  New Media (this will help set you apart)



What were your duties at ATVN? :

Director / Producer / Graphics Coordinator / Washington D.C. Bureau Chief / Executive Producer



How did ATVN prepare you for your career?:

Real life experience backed up by true professionals teaching the tricks of the trade.

Strong writing skills and the college experience working on a live nightly show where we were constantly forced to deal with the unexpected.



What is your advice to aspiring journalists?:

Take advantage of the opportunities available to you at USC - they are priceless - the experience you can gain will put you ahead of people who are already in the industry. 



What should graduates keep in mind when negotiating their first job?:

There is always a need for good writers & producers.  Use the network of ATVN grads to find a good shop.  Get a couple different offers.
