Mark Albert

Class of 1999, Bachelor's



Previous experience
Mark joined 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS in August 2005.  He was previously at WWMT-TV in Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo, Michigan, as reporter and primary fill-in anchor for four years.  Before that, Mark was weekend anchor and reporter for KHSL-TV in Chico/Redding, California, for two years.  He was also a correspondent for IMPACT Cable News Show in Los Angeles, California, from 1997 to 1999.

Education
Mark graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism and a Minor in Political Science.

Personal interests
Mark has been a member in good standing with the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) since 2001.  For three years, he also worked with Kalamazoo Public Schools in Michigan each December to give underprivileged kids a better holiday season.

Born a Dodger fan, Mark bought his first Twins baseball cap in support of the Twins.  Besides attending Major League baseball games, Mark enjoys watching new movies and traveling across the country and world, seeing new places and meeting new people.  Mark is a native of Los Angeles, California. 

Awards:

In 2006, Mark received an Emmy in Michigan for ‘Journalistic Enterprise’, and was nominated for a total of five Emmy awards.  In January 2005, Mark reported live from the Persian Gulf during the Iraqi elections, along with keeping an online journal every night during his 10-day trip.  ‘After the War, Before the Peace’, his four-part series, shows how American military men and women served in the Persian Gulf through the eyes of West Michigan sailors and Marines.  In 2006, Mark received the ‘Specialty Assignment Report - News Series’ Emmy in Michigan for this series.  Mark received the Wade H. McCree Award for the Advancement of Justice and Excellence in Legal Journalism from the State Bar of Michigan in 2005..
