After moving to Pennsylvania in May 2009, I got a job as a classical music host at my current station - the local NPR affiliate. In January 2009, I applied for and got the position as the afternoon radio news anchor and reporter.

What are the top three skills journalism students should learn in college?:

What were your duties at ATVN? :

How did ATVN prepare you for your career?:

ATVN taught me how to go out on a story and have it written and edited within a few hours. I learned how to listen for good sound bites and how to work calmly under pressure. In my current job, I write stories in anywhere from 2 hours to as little as 10 minutes. I also learned what’s it’s like to be live on the air.

What is your advice to aspiring journalists?:

Make sure that you are web savvy. Not only do I have to post every story I write, I also have to tweet them.
