Rob McMillan

Class of 2000, Bachelor's

Rob McMillan joined ABC7 Eyewitness News in December, 2007. He works in the Inland Empire as a General Assignment Reporter.

Rob has truly come full circle in his broadcasting career. He grew up in Rancho Cucamonga, and graduated from Alta Loma High School. He earned his Broadcast Journalism degree from the University of Southern California—where he decided after dabbling in sports and “behind-the-camera” work, that reporting was his true calling.

He got his first on-air gig at the ABC affiliate in Chico, California, where he worked for KRCR in the Butte County Bureau. He covered the major wildfires in his first summer of work, and in his spare time enjoyed the beautiful scenery and the exciting college town life Chico had to offer.

From there it was off to much cooler, crisper weather in Spokane, Washington, where he worked for three years as a reporter for KAYU in the Inland Northwest. The snowy winters there could not be more of a contrast with the sweltering summers of his next career stop: Palm Springs. Returning closer to home for a couple years, Rob worked as a general assignment reporter for two years, covering the land just east of the Inland Empire—the Coachella Valley.

From one hot climate to another, Rob moved next to Las Vegas, covering one of the most exciting news markets in the country, Sin City. He says it was truly an exciting experience ringing in the New Year on The Strip—but when the possibility of reporting on events back home in the Inland Empire became available, Rob knew it was time to come home.

Rob has covered a variety of stories during his career. He says the most exciting story he covered was in 2005, when Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast. But smaller stories, like one about a mayor’s race in Idaho that had to be decided by a coin-flip can be very interesting too.

Rob is excited about reporting on stories meaningful to the people of the Inland Empire. From the Coachella Valley, to the high desert, to the San Bernardino Mountains—the stories to be told in the Inland Empire are endless… Rob hopes to cover as many of them as possible.

In his spare time, Rob enjoys traveling and hanging out with friends. You might be able to spot him hacking up a golf course, or rooting for the Trojans during football season.
