Manny Ramirez has been released from a South Florida jail Tuesday after he was arrested on charges of slapping his wife.

The 39-year old former World Series MVP posted a $2,500 bail on the domestic battery charge.  Ramirez was also instructed not to have any direct contact with his wife.

Broward County officials say Ramirez was arguing with his wife Juliana Monday morning, when he slapped her face, causing her to hit her head on their bed's headboard.  She told the deputy she was afraid the situation would escalate.

Authorities say Ramirez denied hitting his wife.

Ramirez met several family members when he left the jail around noon ET, dodging reporters' questions as he got into a white Cadillac Escalade.

When one reporter told him, "You have to give us something," Ramirez replied, "Not my problem."

Ramirez retired in April from the Tampa Bay Rays after he tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance.  Instead of serving a 100-game suspension for a second violation of Major League Baseball drug policy, Ramirez left the game.

He previously served a 50-game ban in 2009 for a first violation of drug policy under the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Second-time offenders receive double that penalty.

Ramirez was named MVP of the 2004 World Series after he helped end an 86-year championship drought for the Boston Red Sox.

He was selected 13th overall by the Cleveland Indians in the 1991 draft out of New York City and quickly made his way through the minor leagues with youthful energy and charisma.

He broke into the majors in 1993 and played his first full season the following year, finishing second to the Royals' Bob Hamlin in voting for rookie of the year.

He signed with the Red Sox in 2000 as a free agent, helping them end their championship drought in 2004 and winning the World Series again with them in 2007.

He was traded to the Dodgers in 2008, where he instantly became a fan favorite.  As "Mannywood" signs could be seen all over town, he led the Dodgers to the NL West title and swept the Chicago Cubs in the playoffs.  He earned a two-year, $45 million contract.

But Ramirez's accolades ended the following May, when he tested positive for human chorionic gonadotropin, a female fertility hormone often used to cover up steroid use.

Ramirez was a .312 career hitter, racking up 555 home runs and more than 100 RBIs over 13 seasons.  He is ranked 14th on the all-time list.
