Grandmother's Ashes Stolen from Parked Car

The family was on their way to the East Coast to spread the remains of their loved one.

Police are searching for a missing carry-on bag containing the ashes of a Woodland Hills grandmother.

The Weikert family of Woodland Hills reported that two pieces of luggage and a carry-on bag were stolen from their SUV while the vehicle was parked at a shopping mall on Monday night. The carry-on bag contained plastic bag in a brown box, which held the ashes of the victim's mother.

The two pieces of luggage were later found on Tuesday with items missing. The carry-on bag was not among the found items.

According to KTLA, the Weikert family packed Betty Weikert's remains for an early morning flight to the East Coast to spread her ashes.

The missing carry-on bag with the ashes is a black canvas bag with a "St. John" logo on it.
