Funeral Held for Dennis Cho
Dennis Cho was remembered Wednesday afternoon by family, friends and classmates at a funeral service held at USC's United University Church.
The junior died on Nov. 15 at 8:34 p.m. at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center of an undisclosed cause, according to USC's chapter of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He was 21 years old.
Cho will be remembered for his active participation in Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and on campus, especially with LGBT initiatives. As a Greek member, he started the program Greek Chat, which attempted to bridge the gap between the LBGT and Greek communities.
Cho's family posted the funeral plans on Cho's Facebook page within a note thanking his friends for all of the love, support and prayers posted on his Facebook wall. "We wanted to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for every single comment on this wall," the note read. "It means a lot to us and I am confident that it means the world to my little brother."
Caroline Cuse wrote on Cho's wall in remembrance. "Dennis- I remember how welcoming you were to me when I first came to Harvard-Westlake. You were always so friendly and so fun to be around. Thank you for the laughs and your smile and your contagious energy."
Max Druz wrote: "Rest in Peace Dennis Choberger. You were an extraordinary human being, and i hope to see you again in the afterlife."
At 3:15, doors to the United University Church will open and a prayer service and a casket viewing will begin. At 4 p.m. the memorial service will begin. After the service at 5 p.m., there will be a Student Remembrance Reception at USC's Fishbowl Chapel. Students will be able to share their own memories with Dennis.
Lambda Chi released a statement to the Greek Community Friday night saying, "We would like to extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones. Dennis was a loyal friend who was intensively involved at USC and in the Greek community. He will be missed dearly."
A candlelight vigil was organized by Cho's friend, Katherine Hanson, on the lawn of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
On Tuesday, USC's LGBT Resource Center Director Vincent Vigil posted on the Center's Facebook page, “Today the USC community lost an amazing student leader who's efforts to build bridges between fraternity-sorority organizations and the LGBT community will never be forgotten.” USC LGBT uploaded a YouTube pictures slideshow remembering Cho.
