Deadly Shooting at Oakland Religious College [UPDATED]

At least seven people believed dead and the gunman is in custody.

[UPDATED | 10:03 a.m. Tuesday April 3, 2012: The Oakland Police Department has revealed more information on the shooter who opened fire on students at Oikos University yesterday.

The gunman was a nursing school student named One Goh. He had been expelled from the religious university. He was identified as a South Korean national.

According to the Oakland police chief, Goh felt "disrespected" by administrators and students.

Monday afternoon he went to campus to find a school administrator, and when he discovered she was not there, he forced a secretary into a classroom and told people to line up. When some did not cooperate, he opened fire.]

At least seven people were killed and three were injured. Perkins did not release any other details about the victims, but said officials are planning a news conference later Monday afternoon.

Goh was captured in the neighboring city of Alameda a few hours later. Police believe Goh acted alone.

No information has been released about the weapon involved.

Oikos University is a Christian school that offers several courses in theology, music and Asian medicine. The shooting is believed to have occurred inside a classroom, but the exact details behind the location have not been confirmed.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

COMMENTS

From New Zealand South Pacific: Unfortunately America you have yet another shooting inicident causing fatalities to innocent people. My sympathy goes out to those families affected. I have to question your gun laws/regulations? When and what will it take for America to realise that having pathetic gun laws/regulations is not helping your country let alone all the innocent peoples' lives and families that are affected for years to come after someone has mindlessly taken it upon themself to 'shoot' and 'kill' someone! I do understand that America is a very large country and to control weapons entering the country is a hard ASK but at least your President could start with changing the guns regulations and maybe each state could have an amnesty on all weapons...just a thought! For you to make a change for the better...
