Kiffin Call: Post-Colorado
- Defensive end Devon Kennard will not play this year. Kennard tore his pectoral lifting weights before the season started. Coach Lane Kiffin had said the Kennard could return sometime in November, but told the media today the Kennard will instead use a medial redshirt this year. Kennard's loss has been mitigated by the outstanding play of his replacement, Morgan Breslin.
- Cornerback Brian Baucham and defensive tackle Cody Temple will also miss the rest of the season. Baucham went to the hospital with a "breathing issue" after the Cal game. Temple had ankle surgery, according to Kiffin.
- The biggest negative from an otherwise festive day at the Coliseum was penalties. Today, Kiffin called those penalties a "disgrace" and an "embarrassment to the university." Kiffin visibly chewed the team out on the field before they went into the locker room at halftime, and said today that the entirety of halftime was spent discussing penalties and composure. Said Kiffin, "I've never spent a halftime quite like that one."
- The most egregious penality was Leonard Williams' ejection for punching a Colorado player midway through the second quarter. Kiffin said Williams apologized to the team after the game. There is an excellent chance Williams will be suspended for at least the first half of the Trojans game against Arizona this Saturday.
- Aundrey Walker was carted off the field with a neck injury in the second half. Kiffin said he could not discuss much specifics, but said that Walker was in meetings today and that things "seem to be very positve" for him.
- With Walker potentially sidelined, the Trojans will look to true freshman Max Tuerk to replace him at left tackle. Tuerk has been chomping at Walker's heels for a starting job all season, and Kiffin said he played a really great game after Walker went down.
- Kiffin again lauded Saturday as an incredible day, and that is was. The coach said it was really special to be a part of a record-breaking day on multiple fronts.
- Kiffin also said he was very pleased that some players who had been with the program for a while finally got their name's on the stat sheet. Sixth-year safety Drew McAllister had his first career interception. Redshirt junior wide receiver De'Von Flournoy had his first career reception. And redshirt junior defensive end Kevin Greene had his first career sack, forced fumble and fumble recovery.
