Inglewood Man Charged for Tutor Center Shooting
Brandon Spencer, 20, pled not guilty to the charges.
The shooting occurred on Oct. 31 outside of the Ronald Tutor Campus Center, where the Black Student Assembly was sponsoring a party.
Authorities say that the gunman first opened fire on Geno Hall, a former Crenshaw High School student and football star. Hall was taken to the California Hospital Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Three other people--Mysson Downs, Thomas Richie and Davonte Smith--suffered from gunshot wounds. None of the victims are USC students.
Spencer was arrested early Thursday morning on campus after the shooting.
Since the shooting, USC has revisited their campus safety policies.
"It is truly disturbing that the shooting happened during one of our assembly's campus events," said student government president Michael Geragos in a statement.
"We are working with our University leadership in taking immediate action to develop additional measures for campus safety and security."
According to USC President C.L. Max Nikias, school officials are "carefully assessing all of the university's policies regarding visitors and events held on campus."
Campus rules state that any on-campus parties should only be open to guests with student IDs, whether they be from USC or another university.
"The individuals involved were not admitted to the party at any time," said Nikias.
Deputy District Attorney Antonella Nistorescu, the prosecutor in the case, set Spencer's bail at $2.04 million.
Spencer is scheduled for arraignment on Dec. 6.
