Trojans Toppled by Bruins in Rivalry Rematch
When USC knocked off UCLA in Westwood three weeks ago, it spearheaded a four-game winning streak for the Trojans and interim head coach Bob Cantu.
After a loss to Cal last Sunday, the Trojans hoped a rematch against the Bruins would yield similar results and start off another win streak. Instead, UCLA enacted revenge, besting USC 75-59 Sunday afternoon at the Galen Center.
The Bruins jumped out to a 7-0 lead before USC knew what hit them, and the Trojans could never come back from there. The Bruins were on fire early, shooting 59 percent in the first half en route to a 21 point lead at the break. USC made a few runs in the second half, once cutting the UCLA lead to nine with 4:08 remaining, but that was as close as they got.
The Trojans shot a terrible 35 percent from the field in the game, and an equally poor 54 percent from the free throw line. UCLA, on the other hand, shot 47 percent for the game and an incredilbe 50 percent from three-points. All five Bruin starters finished in double figures, led by Jordan Adams' game-high 20 points.
The loss drops USC to 12-15 overall and 7-7 in the conference. They next take the court on Wednesday against No. 12 Arizona.
