Boyle Heights School Sees Higher Graduation Rates
The Promesa Boyle Heights community coalition celebrated Thursday significant increases in graduation rates and attendance at its target schools.
Among the best performing schools was the Mendez High School for College and Career Preparation, which saw a 27 percent increase in graduation rates from 2012 to 2013, school officials said.
Mendez High School also showed more improvement than any other high school in the state of California, increasing by 76 points in the Academic Performance Index (API).
The coalition works in Boyle Heights, where about two-thirds of residents lack a high school diploma.
Coalition officials hope to reach a 70 percent graduation rate and a 65 percent college enrollment rate by 2018 for schools in Boyle Heighs.
