USC Athletic Director Pat Haden Named to Playoff Committee
USC Athletic Director Pat Haden was named to the College Football Selection Committee on Wednesday via USC Athletics. Haden joins a panel of 13 members, which combine for 230 years of college football experience.
The current athletic directors on the committee were recruited based on their expertise in college football, careers that span over different schools and conference levels. Athletic directors will not be representing their conferences, but will represent college football as a whole, according to the selection committee.
The College Football Playoff format will make its debut during the 2014-2015 season. The semifinals are set to be played at the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl, which will then be followed by the National Championship Game on January 12, 2015. The National Championship game will rotate between traditional bowl game cities such as: Atlanta, Dallas, Miami, Phoenix, New Orleans and Pasadena.
The current BCS system is in its final season. The College Playoff Selection Committee will choose the four-team field based on numerous factors such as: win-loss record, head-to-head schedules, strength of schedule, conference champions, key injuries and common opponents. The committee is set to meet numerous times during the season and create "interim rankings."
