Rev. Cecil Murray on Mandela's Legacy

In this extended interview, the iconic South L.A. pastor shares his admiration for Madiba.

Rev. Cecil "Chip" Murray - the former pastor of the First African Methodist Episcopal Church in South Los Angeles - said Nelson Mandela's legacy is one of reconciliation: emerging from prison free of bitterness and resentment, and working for peace.

Murray, who now helps run the Cecil Murray Center for Civic Engagement at USC, met Mandela in 1990 when the South African president was visiting Los Angeles.

The Nobel Peace prize winner toured Murray's church, which was very active in anti-apartheid activism and participated in a boycott of South African imports in the years before Mandela was released from prison.
