L.A. Sparks Purchased by Magic Johnson and Dodgers Owners
The WNBA announced Wednesday that the investment group led by Earvin "Magic" Johnson and Dodgers controlling owner Mark Walter purchased the Los Angeles Sparks.
"It was an easy decision for Mark," said Johnson. "We were on a plane and he turned to me and said let's buy the Sparks and I said okay let's do it. Here we are. It was really simple."
The group includes Dodger co-owners Todd L. Boehly, Robert L. Patton and Stan Kasten, said WNBA President Laurel J. Richie.
The purchase was unanimously approved by the WNBA and NBA Board of Governors. The purchase price was not disclosed.
Previous owner Paula Madison said she could no longer run the team because of financial issues. Madison said her family lost 1.4 million dollars last season operating the team.
