LA Celebrates African-American Heritage Month
Prominent African-American figures like Charlie Wilson, Angela Bassett and former L.A. County Supervisor Yvonne Burke were honored Tuesday at L.A. City Hall.
The event in honor of African-American Heritage Month included the debut of the Shirley Chisholm Forever Stamp. In 1968, Chisholm became the first African-American woman elected to Congress. She later became the first woman to run for the Democratic Presidential Nomination.
Louis Gossett Jr. was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award; Angela Bassett with the Dream of Los Angeles Award; and Charlie Wilson with the Spirit of Los Angeles Award.
