Uganda President Signs Harsh Anti-Gay Bill
Uganda President Yoweri Museveni signed into law Monday a new bill that toughens penalties against gay people. The law will sentence first time offenders to fourteen years in jail and repeated offenders could receive a maximum penalty of life in prison for the charge of "aggravated homosexuality." White House Officials say they are currently reviewing the United States' relationship with Uganda.
Evan Pye, USC Student Coordiantor for the Volunteer Center's Alternative Summer Break to Uganda, has visited the country and is worried that a lack of Western influence could make the problem worse. He plans to return to Uganda this summer.
