USC Women's Basketball Falls Short To St. John 71-68
With 25 seconds remaining in the game, the USC women's basketball team found themselves tied with St. John 68-68. As time winded down St. John's Briana Brown sank a 3-pointer with four-tenths of a second left.
USC's Brianna Barrett attempted a miracle shot at the buzzer, but it bounced off the backboard and front rim. The missed 35-foot shot knocked the Women of Troy out of the NCAA Tournament race as they fell 71-68.
Barrett was a top performer for the Women of Troy being one of two players to finish in double figures for USC. Barrett finished with 24 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Ariya Crook added 16 points and four rebounds.
As for SJU, Aliyyah Handford led all scorers with 27 points, while Amber Thompson recorded the only double-double in the game. Thompson finished with 10 points and 17 rebounds.
The No. 8 seeded St. John advances to the second round after knocking off No. 9 seeded USC, and will face the No. 1 seed Tennessee on Monday. Tennessee is coming off a 70-46 blowout win over Northwestern.
The Women of Troy's six-game winning streak is snapped as USC finishes the year with a regular-season record of 22-13.
Although the Women of Troy's NCAA Title hopes are over they managed to take home their first ever Pac-12 Championship. USC completed a historic run winning four games in four days to take home the Pac-12 title.
