New Facebook Feature Lets Users Find Friends Nearby

The new feature alerts users when a Facebook friend is nearby.

Facebook launched a new feature on its website called Nearby Friends that lets people see if they have any Facebook friends near them.

The company hopes the app will encourage people to meet up spontaneously when they're out and about.

Facebook users can choose whether or not to display their location, and only friends who have both agreed to display their location can find one another.

The app can also send a notification to friends who are near one another, regardless of whether they're Apple or Android users.

Some USC students were hesitant about using the app, saying there are more direct ways, like text messaging, to contact real friends.
