Heather holds a Master's degree in broadcast journalism from the Annenberg School. While at USC, she was a reporter and host for Annenberg Radio News, produced short-form documentaries, and anchored and reported for ATVN.

Heather shot a documentary for her graduate thesis titled "The Black Church in LA" Dead or Alive?" where she profiled pastors and religious studies scholars about the state of one of the city's oldest institutions. The video was selected to be screened at the California African American Museum.

Heather wrote web stories for NBCLA.com and researched investigative stories as an intern at KNBC in Los Angeles. Heather also got a taste of international reporting while interning for CBS News in London.

Heather was born and raised in Atlanta, Ga. She received her bachelor's degree in journalism and sociology from The Ohio State University, where she reported for Buckeye TV News, The Lantern newspaper, and interned for NBC4 in Columbus.

Heather’s first job as a news reporter came in Bakersfield. Now, Heather is in Oklahoma City with as a reporter for News 9.

After I graduated USC, I worked as a multimedia journalist at KGET 17 (NBC) in Bakersfield, CA where I wrote, shot and edited my daily news stories.

Journalists have to have thick skin, good instincts, passion and willingness to learn a wide array of stories.

It's essential for journalism students to learn how to ask compelling questions, write and edit quickly and put together a strong resume tape.

Be flexible and open-minded while still letting news directors know all the many skills you bring to the table as a young go-getter who learned the ins and outs of the business in the 2nd largest news market.

It's ALWAYS great to learn another language, especially, Spanish, which is pretty essential for LA too. But any language you learn will help you to better connect with some potential interviewee who speaks it, and it will set you apart from other reporters, who only speak English.

The full gamut falls under "general assignment," so I cover anything from court to crime to weather, politics, education and the occasional feature story.

Weather-related stories, such as tornadoes and the uneventful snow storm, and political stories run regularly since OKC is the capital city.
