Ready for the Challenge
Many thanks to everyone who is a part of Team Tuesday for constantly rolling with the punches and striving to our advance our show. Each week there have been several improvements. Even when changes are made last minute and breaking news occurs, as is the nature of the news industry, the newscast is still the final rewarding product at the end of the day.
Knowing that our team is capable of taking on the challenge of breaking news after these past two weeks (kudos to our director Timur – and everyone else in the studio), makes me confident that we are ready to bring live shots into our show. As lead producer this past week, I would have loved to incorporate a live shot in some capacity.
Our best bet at the end of the day would have been stationing a reporter at a polling place in Hermosa Beach to discuss Measure B as part of Election Day. However, reporter Astrid Solorzano, spent the day successfully reaching out to a number of sources and with all that she compiled, it made the most sense to package the story in the newsroom. We also primarily focused on the beginning of Annenberg Media Mash-Up this week, which was great practice for multimedia collaboration.
Next week I would love for a live shot to enhance our newscast. Taking the viewer to a location for a live look at an event as many news stations do provides visuals and gives us the ability to include events that we may not otherwise get coverage for due to the timing it takes to turn around a story. I look forward to the upcoming opportunities to improve our show.
