CG in...CG Out!
As lead producer, CGs were not exactly my top priority this week. That being said, they were still my responsibility.
In theory, CGs seem so simple. It is a little bar that tells the viewer who is talking or what they are looking at. That being said, what makes the CG so tricky is formatting. When making a CG you have to ask yourself certain questions. What information goes on the top line and what information goes on the bottoms line? What order do the CGs go in? Most importantly, you must know how to spell everything correctly.
In our Atvn broadcasts, we usually have a lot of interviews with experts. Some of these experts have titles, hold certain positions, or work in specialized fields. Because the CG is so small, it is hard to include everything, but it is important to include information that is relevant to the story.
Some things that we struggle with in terms of CGs is the order of them. If one CG is missing or misplaced you risk calling a female USC student Dr. John Smith. Any viewer would be a little confused if they saw that. This makes it even more important for the MJs and Producers to double check the CGs with the tapes.
This is also why running through the show before six is not only helpful, but necessary.
