A Whole New Meaning to a "Live" Broadcast
Producing a show is nerve racking, but producing a show with a live shot is enough to give you a panic attack. There are so many different elements that need to come together in order to have one successful live shot. It takes communication, planning, and attention to detail. If one of those elements falls through, the back-up plan needs to be implemented immediately.
The back-up plan can sometimes be the most important part of the live shot. As a producer, we obviously hope that we have planned everything out perfectly to avoid mishaps, but sometimes things just happen. Unfortunately a large part of a live shot is up to technology and even if the reporter is cued, the show has started, and the studio is ready, the signal can always fade.
Monday we were all set to do a live shot; we had a script, a location, and even a reporter willing to do it. Unfortunately, our stream-box volunteer needed one more week of training. Had we been ready for one, we would have had the live shot from VKC where the lights were blue in honor of Autism Awareness Week. Even though the live shot didn't work out, it was good practice for future shows.
