Winding Down the Semester
This week was my last go at being Lead Producer. I have to say that I felt more confident today than I ever thought I could producing ATVN.
Even though the morning meeting was a little slow, we managed to get some great package ideas and story lists on the board. Because we are fortunate enough to have three reporters and two anchors, we were able to have five great packages in the broadcast.
What made this week different from the other two, was the live-shot. It had been my goal since the beginning of the semester to get a live-shot in one of my shows and it actually happened; quite seamlessly if I do say so myself. Aside from some timing issues and running over, the shot was clear and with little delay.
It felt really good to have accomplished a goal that seemed so daunting at the beginning of the semester.
Another aspect of the day that I felt went really well was my rundown meeting. Rundown meetings are never enjoyable, you feel your heart beat a little faster, your hands get a little clammy, and you start to fear any questions someone might have about your rundown.
However, this week I was prepared. I knew what the sots were, I knew what the video was, I had been keeping up with reporters, and I had worked really hard on arranging the stories before the meeting.
Naturally, It wasn't perfect, but it was completed almost an hour before it usually is. The day went smoothly and I couldn't have asked for a better team to support me as Lead.
