Reaching The Goal

It’s crazy to think that we’re halfway through the semester, and that we only have a few more shows left to produce. I want to make the best out of these following weeks in order to improve Thursday’s newscast by making some minor, but effective, changes. With the new technology in the media center, I feel like my team and I have not taken full advantage of it and what it has to offer. It took everybody a while to settle in, but now that we’ve produced a couple of shows, it’s time to step it up and get creative.

For my remaining time at ATVN, I would like to try to bring in at least one guest speaker every other week. We have different studios that we have yet to take advantage of and a brand new couch, which would be nice for our guest speakers to use. This will make our newscast more informative and interesting because it’s always interesting to see new elements being implemented into the show.

I would also like to stop doing so many “man-on-the-street” interviews with students, and I would like to reach out to more experts and people who could give us new information or angles on a story. This will help our segments to be less repetitive because we tend to have a lot of opinion-based, man-on-the-street SOTs.  This is something that I will have to communicate and emphasize in morning meetings and to my MJs.

I would also like to continue doing fun segments on “The Buzz,” such as the one we did in last week’s show, where students got asked to describe their love life in three words. It was creative and entertaining to watch.

On a personal note, I would like to improve my writing and leave extra time before our show to look over the rundown and make some edits. The better the writing and teases, the more viewers it will attract. There are a lot of things that can still be improved, but I’m sure that my teammates and I will get better at what we do by communicating more. I’m excited to see some improvement in our newscasts.
