Brainstorming In The A.M.

TAGS:

Every Monday through Thursday, at 8:15 A.M., ATVN, ARN and Neon Tommy, get together at the media center for a morning meeting to draft out the different stories that will be covered throughout the day. Students and faculty get to pitch story ideas, and brainstorm the different angles, interviews, and b-roll that they would like to incorporate in their news outlet.

While I’m pretty pleased with the way Thursday’s morning meetings have been running, there are a few things that we could do differently to improve them. Something that I would like to change is that I would like to have everyone pitch a story or package idea. A lot of the time, it’s always the same people who are pitching stories, so it would be nice if we could encourage everyone to speak up and participate a little more.

If this isn’t possible, then I would like to go around the room and have everyone contribute ideas that can be developed throughout the day in one or more stories. That way, everyone will have the chance to contribute and be heard. I think everyone has something new to add, but a lot of the time, we might not speak up because we don’t feel included, or because we’re embarrassed. Therefore by encouraging collective brainstorming, new and interesting stories can be explored.
