If there’s one thing I know about myself, it’s that technology is not my strong suit. I’m not technologically challenged per se, but I’m definitely not the type of person who can pick up software within an hour. It takes me a while to get acquainted.

So, having never worked the web at ATVN or done a graphics shift, it’s easy to see why I was so nervous to be the web/graphics teammate this week. Surprisingly though, it went better than I had expected.

I think the key to working a successful web/graphics shift is time management. The web duties can be consuming and so it’s important to remember to start requesting graphics early in the day. Luckily our fabulous executive producer, Olivia, reminded me that we had a graphic artist coming in at noon so it motivated me to get a head start and get things ready so she would have something to do. I managed to finish all my graphics early on, which turned out to be a serious blessing because most of them needed to be re-done!

Coming up with catchy phrases for over-the-shoulder graphics and conceptualizing art work isn’t something I can envision myself doing in the future, but knowing that I can tackle it if ever I need to is a real confidence booster. Now that I’ve got the basics down, my goal for the next time I work the web will be to get creative and start pushing myself to make things memorable for our viewers.
