The Challenge of Being a Producer
Producing will be something that I will miss after the semester ends. Some of the things I will miss are deciding what stories will make it to the newscast, the elements that are used in the newscast, and writing teases. These things I did as a producer challenged me to write better, choose the right footage for each story, and keep the viewers watching the newscast. It was always fun doing all those tasks while keeping up with breaking news and providing new content before the newscast. Even though it was stressful at times, I never gave up and took pride of how my newscast came out.
Even though I will miss being a producer, there are other things I will not miss. One thing I can think on the top of my head right now is the last-minute decision making. I can work under pressure pretty well, but when it comes to a last-minute decision making like late breaking news or writing last-minute teases, it can be very stressful. Another thing I will not miss is rearranging the stories alone. I would never feel confident of where my stories were placed in the newscast unless my executive producer guided me through it.
As a producer this semester, it has taught me a lot about myself. Now I know my work ethic and how I work under pressure. It has also showed me how many my writing needs to improve in order to be a producer one day. It was fun and I hope I can do it again in the future.
