It's All In The Details
Each week producing for team Monday is a unique experience. The news is always happening, and one show can never be completely like another.
This week as lead producer I had the opportunity to decide what content would be aired in our 30-minute newscast. Although Mondays tend to be slow, we had numerous reporters out in the field pursuing stories relevant to our local community. At the end of the day, I am always satisfied with the production of our show, but I can't help but wonder what steps we can take to make it an even bigger success.
As students, it is important to remember that working for ATVN is a learning experience. No one is perfect, and there is always room for improvement. I have high hopes that as the semester progresses, each of our MJs and reporters will become experienced enough to see a great amount of change and growth in their work.
Every week before we send reporters out in the field, my producing team and I try our best to educate them on the best ways to shoot footage and interview subjects. This is something I would like to push even further. Stressing the importance of still (non-shaky) shots, correctly-framed interviews, and adjusted audio levels will make the quality of our show even better than it is now.
As a producer, it's difficult to watch the show come to life and see slight mess-ups like an unnaturally high audio level, or an interview with too much headroom. Of course, these aren't elements that would break a story, but having them fixed would just make our show smoother and more visually appealing to our audience.
Bringing more attention to details in the production of team Monday's work is something that Christina, Andrea and I frequently talk about. I hope this week the three of us can try to push our ideas further and help educate our MJs and reporters in a way that will make their work the best it can be.
