Producers

Team Monday Keeps The Faith

One of the unique parts of working as a producer for ATVN is that you're never doing it alone.

The dynamic of the production team we have in place allows us to rely on our teammates to grow and learn as producers. Whether you're the lead producer, video or graphics/web teammate that week, you'll always have an important role in the production of our show.

This week my teammate Christina served as the lead producer for team Monday, and I believe we had one of our best shows yet. The dynamic between Christina, Andrea and me was stronger and more productive than it has ever been so far this semester.

Each week we're becoming clearer and clearer on the responsibilities we share as teammates. The shuffle of positions each week can become confusing to our MJs, reporters, and even ourselves sometimes. It can be difficult to remember who is in charge of what.

Yesterday, for example, in the midst of breaking news, I found many MJs coming to me, the graphics/web teammate, in search of their assignments for the day. Typically, the video teammate should be assigning tasks and stories to our staff. A lot of times I found myself thinking, "I'm on the web today, so I'm not sure what needs to be assigned for the show." But, realistically, each producer should have a strong grasp of the rundown, and be involved enough in the show to take on any kind of responsibility, regardless of their job title for the day.

All in all, I feel like the dynamic between Christina, Andrea and me is only becoming stronger every week. We have become much more comfortable communicating, and our setup in the newsroom has made it more convenient for us to talk to each other throughout the day.

This week's show was one of the most exciting programs I have ever helped produce. Our team was able to pursue two separate pieces of breaking news that were extremely relevant to our audience. I am so proud of the work put in by my producing teammates and everyone involved with team Monday.
