There's No 'I' In Team
Nearly eleven hours of hard work culminated in four simple words: “Thank you for watching.” As the anchors signed off, the studio crew cut to the final commercial break and, soon after, every television monitor in the control room faded to black. At this moment, my partner, Christine, and I reveled in the fact that we successfully produced our first live newscast. Brimming with excitement, joy, relief, and pride, we were suddenly unaware of our exhaustion and hunger. Christine and I exchanged congratulations on a job well done because we both knew that the show would not have been possible without our combined efforts.
Two weeks ago, when we embarked on our co-producing journey, Christine and I were mere acquaintances. However, we now share an undeniable bond that has emerged out of our passion for producing. Christine and I are determined and committed to developing the best possible newscast each week. As a result, we diligently complete our individual responsibilities in a timely and professional manner. That being said, while dividing tasks between the two of us is an effective strategy, Christine and I have to make it a priority to update each other on our progress throughout the day. Above all else, regular meetings would ensure that Christine and I are constantly aware of the status of the rundown, including the elements that we have and those that we still need to get. Nevertheless, if Christine and I continue to arrive promptly and prepared, I am confident that we will be able to further strengthen our team by fostering better communication skills.
Finally, although I appreciate that Christine, like myself, is focused on propelling our newscasts to greatness, I believe that Christine and I should try to balance this intensity with some fun. We must not lose sight of the importance of creating an enjoyable atmosphere in the newsroom. Once again, I think that Christine and I will relax in time, as we become more comfortable with being producers. I look forward to seeing how we will improve over the course of the semester.
